When working with Drupal, most of what we’re working with out of the box contains some form of accessibility. However, when it comes to content on a Drupal website, not everything can be controlled by Drupal’s innate capabilities. PDFs are one of these items and are a major source of online content.

During this session, we’ll share clear methods on how to create and use accessible friendly PDFs with your web presence.

Our websites are maturing into feature-rich publishing platforms, allowing collaboration across organizations and delivering content across multiple channels. But the out of the box publishing experience is fairly flat -- with content either published or not.

Google Analytics is a nearly ubiquitous analytics tool for websites, and implementing it in Drupal is simple. However, if you are not selling website advertising or running an ecommerce website, it does a poor job of providing actionable metrics of website performance. You could extend Google Analytics with Events, but this generally required a developer to implement custom JavaScript events or adjust. With the advent of Google Tag Manager, non-developers and Site Builders can configure and update custom event tracking for Google Analytics to improve the relevance of their metrics.

Over the past year, the Drupal UX study group has been working on gathering information about how content editors use Drupal. We're doing user research to help inform improvements to the Drupal admin UI. Our goal is to make Drupal an amazing platform for site administrators. Our first priority is the user experience of content editors.

We asked content editors what they thought of the Drupal Admin UI and how it could be improved. We’ve also been conducting user studies to see how editors use Drupal and other CMS’s.

You might think that you don't have time to do user testing. Or you might be scared what you'll see if you watch people use your website or walk through the signup steps for your app. You might have heard of user journeys, but believe that they are too much trouble to map out. In fact, there are lots of easy ways to start practicing user experience design that aren't scary or time-consuming.

This is an interactive session in which we run a series of 3-4 demos, and the audience provides structured UX feedback. Demos can include prototypes, working websites and apps, or rough wireframes. The feedback is structured into three rounds: first impressions, positive feedback, and criticisms/constructive feedback. The structure allows us to fit in a lot of content in a short time, and gets everyone in the audience participating and practicing their UX skills.
